5 Tips To Get Better WiFi At Home
Staying connected has become a lifestyle necessity to many people. It is like water is to a thirsty man, can’t do without it!
This is why a home WiFi network is important. There are still a few things we can do at home that can turn our good Wi-Fi network into a great WiFi network.
1. Location, Location, Location
Just like how broadcast signals are best emitted from heights, WiFi signals work in the same way.
Try moving your router to a central location that is high off the ground. It’s been proven that the optimal location for your router is in the very centre of your home.
2. Clear Obstructions
Routers may not be the best looking device, but that doesn't mean you should hide them behind your other furniture. Remember to move your router away from other obstructions.
You’ll be surprised – any number of things can block the signal, especially metals and wires. Electronic devices such as cordless phones and microwave ovens can also cause interferences to the signal.
3. Boost your WiFi Signal (the budget way)
But if you’re on a budget, here’s one super-cool DIY trick you can use. Cut open an empty soft-drink can and lay it out like a sail on your router’s antenna. The results probably would not be mind blowing but it should eke a bit more distance out of your WiFi network.
4. Boost your WiFi Signal
These days, you can buy specialized WiFi extenders on the market. They work by picking up your WiFi signal and rebroadcasting it. However, re-broadcasted WiFi signal strength is usually halved.
5. Two is always better than one
Not many people know this, but it could actually be more cost-effective in the long-run to get two broadband connections set up in your home.
With two broadband connections, you will be basking in WiFi signals wherever you are at home. This could be the best quick fix for your WiFi woes without compromising on speeds too.
