Poor wifi coverage on Nokia Beacon 1 wifi mesh network

Hi,

About 2 months ago i renewed my Starhub 1GBps fibre broadband/TV contract and received a new wifi mesh router, single unit of Nokia Beacon1, installed by Starhub technician  in the hall TV area where my fibre point /ONT is located . The new router  was supposed to provide coverage for up to 1500 sq.ft flat. which is smaller than my flat (and with no deadspots and seamless Wifi coverage as advertised) .

Since installation, it has been giving poor coverage especially in the rooms even with doors open.  It does not matter if you are surfing, doing online work or study, or streaming movies or music. Whatsapp calls are also affected ie. poor voice quality and call drops. All of these were working fine with our previous router but this new Nokia Beacon had better specifications and coverage, and supported Wifi mesh.

I purchased another Nokia Beacon 1 unit and installed it today. It is not able to synch up or pair up even when situated close to each other ("line of sight"). Tried restarting both units, checking the Wifi signal strength using the Nokia mobile app.  which was showing in the Good range, synching the units (using WPS button), etc  but nothing worked.

What else do i need to do to resolve this issue of poor coverage in the rooms and other areas of our flat (other than our hall) ?

Look forward to the solution to the issue.

Thank you !

Hi @jnkumar, sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Please try to reboot your ONT modem and router with the following steps.

  • Unplug both your router and your modem (it should be your Optical Network Terminal) from the power outlet.
  • Wait at least 30 seconds before you plug in only the modem and power it on.
  • Now, wait at least 60 seconds before doing the same for your router.
  • Once your router’s on, wait at least 2-4 minutes (or simply check the router LED status to ensure your router is up) before you re-test your WiFi connection with your phone, laptop or tablet.

Moreover, there are different factors that might be affecting your WiFi coverage. You may refer to this article from Nokia for more information.

Tried all of the above yesterday and still the same, let me work on it further today.

By the way, I did not see the Nokia article in this forum, had not received in my email also. Please post or re-send the Nokia article to my email .

Thank you.
