Ethernet connection

Hi there

I am trying to set up a wired ethernet connection. I have already connected a network cable from the modem - data point - data point - PC.

Could someone please help me with the numbers to type into these fields please?

IP address

Subnet mask

Default gateway

Preferred DNS server

Alternate DNS server

Thanks!

In general, it is best to allow the system to use DHCP i.e. choose the IP and DNS.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I've tried doing that but it doesn't work.

Hm ... what is your router brand? How are your connected? e.g. Modem -> Router -> Computer?

If your router is Linksys, in general, the Internet Gateway is 192.168.1.1 for the IP4 above.

You can also try setting the DNS manually with Cloud Flare ones i.e.

Primary DNS 1.1.1.1

Seconday DNS 1.0.0.1

You may need to do this within the router also. As mentioned, if it is Linksys, access the router via 192.168.1.1

If you are connecting via Hub/ Switch, make sure that the cables are connected properly i.e. you see a light for each port connected as well as the end plugged into the Computer. Sometimes a physical disconnect and reconnect can help.
