Activating 2nd port on nucleus connect modem

I've been told that only 1 port on my Nucleus Connect modem would be active since I only have 1 FO point. If I need another port to be activated, can this be done?

You are only issued 1 public IP so if you need another LAN connection, you have to use a router.

You can't request activation of another LAN point.

Some configurations like Fibre TV will use a 2nd port on the ONT but that is not for accessing internet.

Hello StarHub technical Team,

This is very disappointing for many StarHub users!

I have face so many difficulties in recent times with starhub fiber broadband and wifi.

Due to which i have purchased 2 Nokia beacon 1 yesterday.

To my surprise it also has one port only. Now that StarHub Nucleus connect only allow to have one port out of 4 port, #2 port for TV the remaining 2 ports are backup as explained by customer service. Which will only be activated if port 1 and 2 is faulty.

We have additional port which is of no use to us now when we need it.

Option:

I have to buy now one more device ethernet switch to have more port to connect from nucleus to Nokia beacon 1

Problem:

Ethernet switch comes with 10/100M which means maximum speed will be 100mbps, correct me if i am wrong.

With spending so much for 1GHz fiber broadband and now additional spending for Nokia wifi i will end up with 100mbps speed.

Please look into it and help to open atleast 1 more port for the starhub users to have atleast. You may keep 1 port for backup if you deemed it so much necessary. This port will remain un utilized until the day the modem will dies of its own natural death.

Kindly consider the request to make sturhub users to have a flexible and pleasant subscription.

Regards

Prem

Stay safe!

Hi Prem,

Ethernet switches come with different max speed.  Some are 10/100Mbps and others are 10/100/1000Mbps.  You should be getting the 10/100/1000Mbps ones for fibre broadband.

And also just for your info 10/100/1000 Mbps, it only works on the highest speed available. Thats why it is called a switch!

So it will always work on 100Mbps as none of the starhub 1GHz modem output has more tha 1000Mbps.

Mostly wired speed is 800Mbps or lower.

Hello  StarHub,

Thanks for your reply, when internet is not working fine then starhub will tell check your ethernet switch, check your Router and then link with the modem directly with the pc to check the speed that too only with starhub speed tester.

Why starhub want to make user experience so bad? Why cannot just activate the port for thier users which is anyway there without any use.

Appreciate if Starhub looks into this seriously.

Thanks and regards

Prem

Hi @Premnair28, there are four ports on an ONT. Usually, the 1st port is for the router, then the 2nd is for the set-top box, and the 3rd and 4th ports are extra. If you have the 2gbps Fibre broadband plan, the 3rd port is used for the other 1Gbps connection.

Hello Carla,
I am using 1Ghz so i would request for making my 3rd port available for me too. As it is not so difficult for starhub as they have already made it available for 2Ghz customers.

Hi @Premnair28, unfortunately, the option to use the 3rd port is only available for those who are under the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan.

Hello Carla,

Thanks for your response.

That is very unfair to all the 1GHz customer of starhub.

Then please provide solution to my query?

Saying no is very easy thing to do.

Regards

Prem

Hello Carla,

How can i expect reply more promptly on a social media for technical issues where a sturgub community on a starhub page is not able to fix the issue. If you are unable to reply you should excalate it to someone who can respond and have the answer.

This is such a pathatic portal then. Better take it down then.

If i dont have social media account i cannot get starhub support? That is what you mean?

Thanks for your response anyways.

Regards

Prem

Since you previously mentioned that you have two Nokia Beacons, you can actually make use of those two at the same time. Have you tried to follow these instructions < https://wifi-helpcenter.nokia.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025860154-Add-a-Beacon-to-extend-your-Wi-Fi-network-coverage- > from Nokia's Help Center on how to add a Beacon to extend your Wi-Fi coverage?

Moreover, we usually refer customers to our Customer Care Support Team on Facebook or Twitter if either their concern is account-related and needs technical assistance. Alternatively, customers could also email us at customerservice@starhub.com
